Re: "I Was A Stranger, And You Took Me In"

NOTE: This is a rough draft that I'm working on...therefore, it is in the early stages of what I'm intending to write.

~*~*~*~

On a beautiful late brisk wintery morning of April 3rd, 1997, Tammy was taking a resput on the bench overlooking the Chelsea Piers, as she sipped water from her bottle of water. Shannon, her cousin, had to hurry home to their Greenwich Village flat, so she could ready herself for work at an entertainment law firm in uptown Manhattan.
Tammy had begun the first day of her two-week vacation from her shipboard duties, and was in no hurry to get home. As she sat resting on the bench, she noticed the lone figure of a man dressed in a dark-gray tweed suit not of the 21st century look, and holding a satchel at his side. Little did she realize that her assumption would turn out to be right. She quietly observed him looking first at the empty berth before him, and then downriver...as if he was looking for a ship he may have missed. The poor fellow seemed at a loss as to what he should do next. Taking heart at his situation, she decided to help him out. Getting up from the bench, she began walking out towards him. As she nears him, hearing her footsteps he turns to her as she approaches him.
Stopping dead in her tracks, she is completely was taken aback at his amazing good looks. 'He's simply gorgeous!' she thinks to herself, as she stands there gazing up into his beautiful brown eyes and handsome face. She also sees what appears to be the early growth of a mustache on his upper lip. "Ahem," she begins, clearing her throat and licking her upper lip, smiling warmly up at him. Holding out her right hand to him, she continues, "I...I'm Tammy Anderson. Welcome to New York!"
Giving his new friend the onceover, he seems to be thinking to himself, 'Why I do I get a feeling that I'm not in Kansas anymore?' Her blonde wind-blown feathery bangs, and is braided in a French braid that is dangling down her back. She is wearing a matching red with white-striped sweat jacket w/a hood and pants; and underneath a white I LOVE NY T-shirt, with a gold chain around her neck with a small crucifix attached to it, and on her feet she is also wearing a pair of walking shoes. "Why, thank you, Miss Beautiful Blue-Eyes," he replies, as he accepts her hand and much to her surprise, kisses the top of her hand instead, as he looks directly into her beautiful blue-emoticon eyes. To him, her eyes have got to be the prettiest pair of eyes he's ever seen. They reminded him of the blue-emoticon waters he's swam in near the east coast of South America, near the Bahamas.
Tammy feels herself blushing from his comment he made about her eyes, "Thank you, Mr. ...uh?"
       "Murdoch. William McMaster Murdoch."
"Murdoch. Tammy, please. You can call me, Tammy."
"Tammy, it is. And you can call me, Will."
"Will, it is. If you don't me asking. What was it you were looking for downriver?"
"I was looking for a barque ship called the Lydgate. Have you seen her?"
"The Lydgate? Nope, sorry about that. And she's a barque, is she?"
       "Aye." Answered Will.
"Mmmm. May I be as so bold to ask you what rank you would have served aboard her, had she been tethered here at this berth?" Tammy asks, as she gesters down at the berth Will was earlier looking down at.
"You may indeed ask me, my lass." Will replies, pleased that his new friend is interested in him and his career. "I was to sign on as 1st mate, and then prepare her for her next voyage."
"Which is when and where would you be departing for?"
"The 15th of May 1897. We would have been departing for Shangai, thence if required to making port stops a long the way for a period not exceeding 3-years."
"Did you say--1897!?" Tammy asks, with surprise and shock.
       "Aye, I did."
"Whoa!!! Will, you missed your intended ship by...by all of 100-years!"

(To be continued...)

Thank you, Will. I'm just, as you see--getting started on it. Plus, making much needed corrections as well too.

Hugs,
MA
